Clinical Studies of Pyrodifenium Bromide(Padrin) to the Digestive Disease



Abstract
Recently a new spasmolytic preparation (Padrin), derivatives of 3-diphenylmethylen-pyrrolidine, has been developed in The Reaearch Laboratory of Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., some of which have been found to possess potent anticholinergic activity.
In this report, clinical studies of this compound on the digestive diseases were carried out. Espe4iaily the effect of the Padrin on the abdominal pain was observed. / The cases of observation were.as following;
acute gastritis 32 cases, chronic gastritis 34 cases, peptic ulcer 22 cases, acute pancreatitis 10 cases and acute cholecystitis 14 cases. All of the cases were divided three groups in according to the oral dosage of Padrin.
Excellent result was seen on the abdominal pain of the gastritis and peptic ulcer patients in the group of 90mg/day orally. However, in the cases of pancreatitis and cholesystitis, 120mg/day were needed for the abdominal pain control. No side effects were encountered in the patient treated except a case of dry mouth and mild constipation.
The results revealed Padrin to be of high therapeutic value ¢¥on :the control of abdominal pain in gastrointestinal spastic diseases.
